FRANKFORT --- In an interview earlier this week on KET’s One-to-One with Bill Goodman, Kentucky’s top conservative columnist, John David Dyche said, in his opinion, Republicans would prefer to face Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Jack Conway rather than Lt. Governor Daniel Mongiardo in the General Election.
Dyche, a conservative columnist who writes for the Louisville Courier-Journal and author of Republican Leader: A Political Biography of Senator Mitch McConnell, when asked by Goodman which Democratic candidate Republicans would rather face in the General Election said:
“I think the Republicans would rather see Jack Conway. I think the Republican perspective generally is that Conway is from Louisville, wealthy, plaintiff’s lawyer. Doesn’t really have a passion for any issue and doesn’t really stand for anything; and, he’s not really kind of a tough scrappy type guy and they think they can take him. Whereas Mongiardo, they already know from the last Senate race that this guy’s a fighter. He’s got some, some passion. You can’t tar him with Louisville or the plaintiff’s bar. He’s a doctor. He’s an Eastern Kentuckian. And he’s just a tenacious battler."
