The fifth annual Willie B. Bright Community BBQ will get underway beginning at 12:00 noon to 3:00pm on Saturday, October 3rd at Baxter Square Park at 12th and Jefferson.
Entertainment for adults and activities for children will be provided including cornhole, basketball, dominoes, sack races, face painting and astrojump. Ribs, chicken, burgers, baked beans, potato salad, chips and dessert will be served.
“I believe that when people in a community take the time to get to know one another and learn that we have more things in common than we have differences there is nothing that we can't accomplish,” says Tandy.
Willie B. Bright was a businessman and community activist prior to his being first elected District 4 Councilman in 2002. Mr. Bright passed away in 2004.
“Councilman Bright was a man who believed that elected leaders should always be engaged with the people that they served,” says Tandy. “The continuation of this community bar-b-que is a way for us to honor the memory of a good friend to the community and for everyone, in an informal setting, to have an opportunity talk with their elected officials.”
