Kentucky'sdisconnectedyouthareaconstantreminderthathomelessnessisamyriadofhumanstories,notjustacollectionofsociologicalandeconomicdata-asitsometimesendsupbeingviewedinthehallsofCongress.I,likeyou,haveahighlevelofinterestinyouthwhoaredetachedfromfamily,school,work,andanysortofpermanency,andIamexcitedabouttheopportunitytoengagethecommunityinadiscussionabouthomelessyouth.

Accordingly,Iwouldliketoinviteyoutoparticipateina RunawayandHomelessYouthForuminLouisville,KentuckyonJune30^that10:00a.m.ThegoalofthisforumistogatherinputandfeedbackfromthecommunityonwaystoimprovetheRunawayandHomelessYouthAct--themainsourceoffederalfundingfordisconnectedyouthoutsideofthefostercareandjuvenilejusticesystem. IwashonoredtobeaskedbytheChairmanofHouseEducationandLaborCommitteetoleadtheeffortstoreauthorizethislegislation,whichwilltakeplaceoverthecomingmonths. Iknowyourcommitmenttothisissue,andhopeIcancountonthebenefitofyourguidanceandexperienceaswedevelopthislegislation. 

Over50organizationsandindividualshavebeeninvitedincludingrepresentativesfromlocalandnationalorganizations. IamexcitedtobeginworkonthereauthorizationandwanttoensurethatthislegislationisnotwritteninWashington,butistrulycraftedbythepeoplewhoaredirectlyservingournation'sdisconnectedyouthon-the-ground.YouarecriticalintheseeffortsandIwouldbethrilledifyoucouldattendthisevent.
