Official Invite To All Media and Social Justice Organizations
To All Members of the Social Justice Community: 5/10/06
On Friday, May 12th 2006, The Black Caucus along with The Kentucky Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression will host a press conference on the West End Community’s reaction to Derby Cruising; at 3208 West Broadway (The Braden Memorial Center).
As you all well know, last weekend, there was an extensive and expensive effort made by Metro Louisville to put an end to Derby Cruising in the West End of Louisville, Kentucky. In response, the press conference is to give ours and other social justice organizations an opportunity to express their positions publicly and offer alternatives for next year’s Derby festivities. We would like to know the position of your organization or group in this matter.
We are requesting representatives from all Media groups and the following organizations: ACLU/, NAACP, Justice Resource Center, Jobs with Justice, Peace Education, Louisville Urban League (Youth Development), Women for Peace & Justice, LPAC, Rainbow PUSH Coalition, Interfaith Paths to Peace, Portland Now, African American Think Tank, Americana Community Center, Yearlings Club, YMCA, River City Drum Corp. and any organizations, individuals, or groups not mentioned but affected by the recent events. We are also inviting these supporters to a Pre-Press Conference Meeting on Thursday, May 11th 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at The Braden Memorial Center. The purpose of the meeting is to have a general discussion and to formulate a strategy of the social justice community in response to the elimination of Derby Cruising and related issues that have adversely affected West Louisville over the past weekend.
Suggested Talking Points are as follows:
Human Rights
Civil Rights
Civil Libertarian Point of View
Cruising Issues
Perspectives of different Communities
