Of course we are so close in time to the heinous murder of Dr. Tiller by what I believe to be domestic terrorism that it is hard to know what may be a proper response from afar.
Hillary, our finest voice for Women's Rights, is occupied with international matters as our Secretary of State. But, today, my "Friend" on Facebook, Twitter, etc., a true friend of mine made during Senator Clinton's historic quest for the Presidency, Kim Gandy, the President of NOW, has begun a reasoned response (You will recall that it was Kim who was with us on that horrible day in Denver when we was verbally attacked on the street corner by one of our delegation; Kim just stayed with us even though she had other commitments).
I have today(May 31, 2009) sent along my inquiries to the Women of WomenCount (you will recall these incredible women as those who, with our own Phyllis George, got the "Not So Fast" ad in the Courier Journal just before Hillary's historic win in Kentucky's primary.) For me, the commitment of all of these women to the causes of fairness, equality, justice, and empowerment is unquestioned, and unparalleled. So, I am very interested in "listening" to what they say and considering whether to follow where they may lead. And, I'll be wearing my WomenCount pin and my white armband on June 1, 2009. I thought you all might wish to know, as well. I have included links for you, in the event you wish to follow, too. Dear Friends:
I have to be in Court tomorrow(June 1, 2009), but I'm taking my WomenCount flower Rosemary gave me in Denver out of my shadow box from where it resides with all my Hillary treasures, including my 300 pin, and wearing it, tomorrow, and I don't know for how long. Also, the Tweets Kim is getting/giving show that she is recommending white armbands tomorrow, which I will wear. I still don't have a proper NOW pin Kim, but I'm going online to order one, asap.
