“ItsoundsremarkablylikeHerbertHooverandIdon’tthinkthat’sagoodeconomicpolicy.Wehaveaframeworkofregulation,itneedstobeupdatedandmodernized.Thegovernmenthasanumberoftoolsatitsdisposalthatarewell-suitedforjustthissituation.IthinkthatinactionhascontributedtotheproblemswefacetodayandIbelievefurtherinactionwouldexacerbatethoseproblems.I’velaidoutwhatIwoulddo.Idon’tthinkit’sanadequateresponsetosaythegovernmentshouldn’tbehelpingeitherbanksorpeoplebecauseIthinkthatwouldbeadownwardspiralthatwouldcausetremendouseconomicpainandlossinourcountryandIdon’tseewhyweshouldwaitbyforthattohappen.”
