WeinviteyoutobecomeamemberofKentuckiansforSinglePayerHealthcare(KSPH).

Werepresentacoalitionofindividualsandorganizationsworkingtopassuniversal,nonprofit,singlepayerhealthcareasdetailedintheplanofthePhysiciansforaNationalHealthProgram(PNHP),andinHR676,the“ExpandedandImprovedMedicareforAll”legislationnowbeforeCongress.

KSPHbelievesaccesstohealthcareshouldnotbebasedonabilitytopay. Wehopetodirecttheangerandfrustrationengenderedbyanunjustandinequitablehealthcaresystemintopositive,constructiveactiontobringaboutrealreformandhumanechange.

Asreformofourhealthcaresystemhasbecomeanurgentpriority,theadvocacyandeducationalworkofKSPHhasbecomeincreasinglyimportant. Anestimated47millionpeopleareuninsured,including9millionchildren. Individualsandbusinessesareburdenedwiththeescalatingcostofpremiums,highdeductiblesandskimpycoverage. Meanwhile,theoverheadofprivateinsurers--includingprofitsandhighexecutivesalaries—siphonsoff20to30centsofeveryhealthcaredollar.

Economistsandhealthpolicyexpertshavestudiedthevariousreformproposals. Theirresearchindicatesthatthatonlyanationalnonprofit“singlepayer”programwouldprovidetrulyuniversalandcost-effectivecoverage,guaranteeingaccesstoallmedicallynecessarycare.

Ourgrassrootsorganizationhashadsomerealsuccesses--securingendorsementofHR676bytheKentuckyHouseofRepresentatives,theLouisvilleMetroCouncil,aswellasseveralcommunityandlabororganizations. WehavebeenworkingwithactivistsaroundthestateandinSouthernIndiana—makingpresentations,distributingliteratureatpublicforumsandfestivals,andmostrecentlyatshowingsofthefilmSiCKO,etc. Butweneedyourfinancialsupporttoexpandourreach.

Ithasbeenexcitingandenergizingtoseethismovementgainmomentum,butwemustgetthemessageouttomorevoters,convincemorelegislatorstosignonasco-sponsors.
