TheColonCancerPreventionProjectislookingfornursingandcommunityvolunteerstohelpwithahugeopportunitytoeducateanddelivercoloncancerscreeninginformationinaccordancewiththeRubbertownScreeningEffort.

TheLouisvilleMetroDepartmentofPublicHealthandWellnessneedsyourhelp! WewillbeconductingaCommunityHealthScreeningsProjectbeginningSeptember10,2007. ThisspecialprojectistheresultofanagreementbetweentheUnitedStatesEnvironmentalProtectionAgencyandtheLouisvilleMetropolitanSewerDistrict. Aspartoftheagreement,$1.2millionwasprovidedforhealthscreeningsforresidentsofneighborhoodsadjacenttotheindustrializedareainwesternLouisville(morecommonlyknownasRubbertown). 

Weneedyourhelp! 

¨    Licensedhealthcarevolunteerswillscreentodetecthypertension,diabetes,cholesterolandironlevels,elevatedbloodleadlevelsinchildrenunderagesix;respiratoryproblems,andcolon,breast,cervical,bladderandprostatecancer.

¨    Communityvolunteers areneededtobetobegreeters,check-inattendants,assistwithclientflow,andassistatthevolunteer/staffstation.

Youcanmakeadifference! Volunteersarecriticaltothesuccessofthisproject.We’llprovidethesupplies,equipment,andyourlunch;youbringyourwillingnesstohelp.Volunteerscanworkaslittleasfour-hourshiftsduringthescreeningswhichwillbeheld9a.m.–7p.m.Mon.andWed.;9a.m.–5p.m.Tues.,Thurs.,andFri.;and9a.m.–noononSat.Sept.15,Oct.6and20,andNov.3. Theprojectwillbeheldinfourareasduringthefollowingweeks:

September10–22 Area1, apriorityarea,includestheneighborhoodsofRiversideGardens,LakeDreamland,St.Denisandsurroundingareas; 

October1–12     Area2includesParkDuValleandAlgonquinneighborhoods;

October15–26    Area3includestheneighborhoodsofCalifornia,ParklandandParkHill;and

Oct.29–Nov.9   Area4Chickasawneighborhood
